I’m seeing the error “PowerPC applications are no longer supported”

Symptom: when you start Beamer, you see the following error message

Solution: this appears to be a bug in OS X El Capitan (10.11). Please try the following:

  1. Restart your Mac.
  2. If that does not help, move the application out of the “Applications” folder (e.g., to “Desktop”)
